At downloading Scutum ledger or Ledger commander you are warned several times. Windows tries to protect you from the dangers of the internet and it is a good thing. If you find something new on the internet and you do not know what it is then don't click it.
So how can you get to know Ledger commander? Step by step. First, download Scutum Ledger, open it, and do not enable the macros. This way you can be sure the macros can harm your machine. You can press Alt + F11 to see the code of the macros. Double click on the AccountBalances excel object. If you have some programming knowledge you can check the code there. The GenearteAccountBalances method creates an account - date pair if the date is within the opening and closing date of the account.
Similarly, in the AccountBalance object the GenearteAccountPeriods method creates an account - period pair if the time interval of the account and the period overlaps. In the InstrumentValues object the GenearteInstrumentValuesmethod creates a transaction - date pair if the transaction is about buying an instrument and the date is between the buying and the closing date.
Now you can enable the macros and try them out. It is worth noting that the macros are only help. If you create the rows manually in Account balances, Instrument values, and Account periods, then you do not have to use the macros. Ledger commander implements the same functionality as Scutum ledger but with a lot of helper function. As more and more people uses Lc you can have more and more confidence in it.
To reduce the number of warnings the creator of the software has to buy a so called code signing certificate which cost money. This option will be considered if Lc generates some donation.
